Manchester United welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Old Trafford on Saturday for what promises to be an intriguing Premier League showdown.
The Red Devils are turning the tide after a poor start to the season, winning back-to-back games against Sunderland and Liverpool.
Brighton are one of the most improved sides in the English top flight and could pose a big threat to United’s positive momentum.
The Seagulls have lost just once in their last eight matches across all competitions, a run that includes statement victories over Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has recently turned to the experience and intelligence of veteran striker Danny Welbeck, and the decision has paid off handsomely.
The 34-year-old has been in red-hot form over the last four games. He grabbed an assist in the Carabao Cup win over Barnsley before netting consecutive braces against Chelsea and Newcastle.
After a sluggish start to the 2025-26 campaign, Welbeck has now found a good rhythm.
Each of his four recent goals has showcased a different facet of his finishing.
This included a thunderous close-range header, a delicate left-footed chip, a composed right-foot dink, and a low-driven strike into the bottom corner from 18 yards.
This small sample shows that Welbeck has multiple ways to find the back of the net.
Welbeck rose through the United academy and made his senior bow at only 17. He bagged 28 goals in 118 appearances before making the move to Arsenal in 2014.
The Red Devils reportedly explored the idea of bringing him back this summer before ultimately securing the signature of Benjamin Sesko.
United will love to see one of their academy stars still shining but will hope that he endures a rough evening on Saturday.
