Enzo Maresca names player he feels “very lucky” to manage after Ajax thrashing

Enzo Maresca has revealed he feels “very lucky” to manage Estevao Willian and claimed fans play to watch players like him.

Chelsea ran riot at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening as they thrashed Ajax 5-1 to make it two wins from their first three Champions League games.

There were five different scorers on the night, with Marc Guiu, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Estevao and Tyrique George all finding the back of the net.

Enzo Maresca feels “lucky” to manage Estevao

Maresca made a number of changes from the team which beat Nottingham Forest, which meant Estevao was handed his first start in the competition.

The Brazilian was once again electric and he won and converted a penalty to become Chelsea’s youngest scorer in Champions League history.

Maresca has likened Estevao to Palmer, and the sky really seems to be the limit for the teenager, who’s made a big impact at Stamford Bridge.

Jorrel Hato has compared Estevao to Lamine Yamal, and Maresca admitted after the game he feels lucky to be his manager.

“I feel very lucky to be his manager because it’s exciting, you can enjoy.,” he told his post match press conference.

“We said many times, I think the fans at the end, they paid the tickets to see players like Cole [Palmer], like Estevao, this kind of player.

“So it’s nice that we can have players like Estevao, like Cole, like them.”

Chelsea youngsters shine

It was a night to remember for a number of Chelsea’s young stars, with three teenagers on the scoresheet for the Blues.

Guiu and George also found the back of the night, whilst there was another run out for promising academy star Reggie Walsh.

The average age of the Chelsea team which finished the game was 20.6, with the future at Stamford Bridge certainly looking bright.
