'Make it happen': Man United loanee admits shock transfer that almost happened

PL News Thursday 23 October 2025 - 21:44

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has made a stunning revelation, confirming he held transfer talks with one of Europe’s biggest clubs in the past.

Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona, where the Catalan giants have the option to make his stay permanent for under £30 million.

The 27-year-old has now revealed that he had held discussions with Barcelona in the past, but the transfer did not materialise.

He said (via ESPN): “I just believe that things happen when they’re supposed to happen.

“It’s not the first time I spoke with Barcelona about potentially coming here, but for whatever reasons it didn’t happen in the past and now is my opportunity to make it happen.

“I feel like there’s no time like the present now. So I just take things day to day.”

Rashford’s chapter at Man United is over

Rashford rose through the ranks at United and became the latest poster boy for the academy.

He went on to feature over 400 times for United, bagging 138 goals and 78 assists.

He had a very good spell at the club but even his biggest admirers will admit he never truly reached the world-class potential many once predicted.

Rashford could have done more. There were moments when he looked unstoppable but inconsistency and off-field distractions often halted his rise to superstardom.

The England international was linked with dream moves to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in the past, but he always stayed loyal to United.

United made him the highest earner at the club with wages exceeding £300,000 a week.

Rashford is performing extremely well for the La Liga giants and will now hope to join them permanently next summer.
