Former Liverpool and England goalkeeper David James has certainly gone against the grain a bit with his latest Chelsea opinion.
James has bee talking about Chelsea stopper Robert Sanchez and his recent form. Sanchez has come under heavy criticism amongst pundits and Chelsea fans and you would certainly say that he isn’t the most popular player in the squad.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea close in on new Front of Shirt Sponsor and the name that is expected to be announced on the shirts!!
However, nobody can deny that since the end of last season, we have seen much improved and more consistent performances from Sanchez and he has been doing much better.
For me, a lot of this has been down to his distribution and having the freedom to be able to go long when he wants to. This has taken out many of his mistakes and brain fart moments and he actually does have a very good long kick and can create dangerous attacks and counter attacks for Chelsea with it.
James is full or praise for Sanchez
As cited on X, James said:
“If you look at that Club World Cup, his distribution against PSG was ridiculous and caused all sorts of problems.
“So I just think that we’ve got a goalkeeper there who I think will be the foundation for Chelsea’s challenge for the title.
“I think Chelsea will be up there because, first of all, the outfield players. But as I say, with Robert Sanchez they’ve got a goalkeeper who I think could deliver for them this season.
“I know there are a lot of people who look at Sanchez and question his capabilities but I think he is outstanding.
“I think the one thing that he’s done this season, more so than last season, is contribute with his distribution. His long balls, similar to David Raya, have been exceptional.”
