Chelsea take on Sunderland in the Premier League tomorrow afternoon, and it won’t be easy.
Despite being a newly promoted team, the Black Cats have been one of the surprise packages of the season and they currently sit level with us in the table. They bought really impressively in the summer and have beaten some top teams. We need to be very careful tomorrow or risk an upset.
Last time out they swatted aside Wolves 2-0 to keep up their good form, and Enzo Maresca was asked in his press conference about what he made of tomorrow’s opposition.
Maresca praises Sunderland
“I think they show since the season starts that they are a very good team, they play together, they work together, they play as a team,” Maresca said.
“Also in terms of results, they have the same points as us so they are showing how good they are doing since they started and the game, it’s a Premier League game, I don’t think there is any game that can be easy, they are all difficult games.”
Chelsea are entering this game with the best fitness situation they’ve had in weeks, with Malo Gusto’s suspension the only frustrating absence. It won’t be easy – but there should be no excuses.
In other news…
The big news from this presser was all about strikers. Marc Guiu was called out by Maresca for bad training habits, which was why he hadn’t started a game until this week. It seems it’s all resolved now, though.
Maresca’s other big update from the press conference was on Liam Delap, the striker who has made a rapid recovery from a bad hamstring injury and could feature as soon as next week, according to his manager. Poor Guiu’s chance is over as soon as it arrived it seems.
