Enzo Maresca is managing a team in four competitions, and it’s not easy.
Despite injuries and suspensions there is a big squad, and there’s always bound to be someone who’s not happy that they’re not playing. He’s been managing teenage sensation Estevao Willian very carefully, giving him the occasional start, and today in his press conference he was asked about how he was handling the tough job of telling the starlet he was on the bench for most games.
Maresca on making tough decisions with his squad
As Maresca pointed out however, it’s an equally difficult job with the youngest players as it is with the oldest. They call want to play, but it’s down to him to decide who and when.
“It’s [difficult] with Estevao but it’s almost [the same] with all of them, it doesn’t matter the age because with the ones if you say to… I don’t know, to Tosin that he’s the oldest one, that he’s not going to play, he’s not happy. So it’s not about the age, it’s about that when they don’t play they are not happy but again they have to understand that they cannot play every game.”
He’s doing a great job in the main, and if he can keep this balance going we will see great progress.
In other news…
Tomorrow’s opposition are recently promoted but not to be underestimated. Enzo Maresca made it very clear he had a lot of respect for Sunderland, and also pointed out what he thought their strong points were.
The big news from this presser was all about strikers. Marc Guiu was called out by Maresca for bad training habits, which was why he hadn’t started a game until this week. It seems it’s all resolved now, though.
