Enzo Maresca has stated it’s very difficult to say when asked if Marc Guiu would return to Sunderland on loan in January.
Chelsea welcome Sunderland to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon looking to make it five wins in a row in all competitions.
The Black Cats have made a brilliant start to the season and are level on points with Chelsea after the first eight matches.
Enzo Maresca speaks on potential Marc Guiu loan
The game represents the opportunity for Guiu to come up against Sunderland for the first time after his loan spell was cut short.
Guiu originally joined Sunderland on a season loan in the summer, but was recalled after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury at the end of August.
The youngster had to bide his time for minutes, which eventually came against Liverpool, and he’s now featured in Chelsea’s last three games.
Maresca has subsequently confirmed the reason Guiu wasn’t playing was because of his level in training, and he has been linked with a return to Sunderland.
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has had his say on the matter, and now Maresca has given his view when asked about Guiu.
“We are in October, I don’t know, I don’t know also because in football things can change very quick for everyone, for players, for managers, for everyone so it’s very difficult to say,” he told his pre-match press conference.
Liam Delap could feature against Wolves
With Guiu now ready to start games, there was more good news as Maresca confirmed Delap could feature in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Wolves.
Delap returned to training for the first time on Thursday, and whilst he won’t feature against Sunderland there’s a chance he’s back next week.
The England under-21 international has been absent since the end of August, and his return will be a huge boost for Chelsea with an important run of games coming up.
