As if making his Champions League debut wasn’t enough, the week has got even better as it was announced on Friday Walsh had signed his first professional contract with Chelsea.

The 17-year-old also appeared as a late substitute in the Carabao Cup win against Lincoln, but he faces a tough task forcing his way into the Chelsea midfield.

The Blues are stacked with quality in the centre of the park with the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

The youngster has plenty of time to develop, and it will be interesting to see how many more first team opportunities he gets throughout the season.

Enzo Maresca not afraid to give youngsters a chance

Chelsea’s Cobham academy is renowned for producing top quality youngsters, and Walsh is yet another one off the production line.

A number of academy graduates are part of the first team set-up with Reece James, Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah all coming through the ranks.

Maresca showed last season he’s not afraid to give youngsters opportunities, and academy players often regularly train with the first team.
