Chelsea are prepared to battle Liverpool and Manchester United for Bayern Munich centre back Dayot Upamecano according to reports.
The Blues lost Levi Colwill to an ACL injury before the start of the season, but despite public pleas from Enzo Maresca for a new centre back, his wishes weren’t granted.
Chelsea tried to sign Dean Huijsen early in the summer, but he went to Real Madrid, with the only defensive addition Jorrel Hato, who will provide a much needed alternative for Marc Cucurella.
Chelsea interested in Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano
Chelsea have had issues at centre back this season, with a number of errors costing the team both goals and points.
Maresca has seemingly yet to settle on a first choice defensive pairing, with the centre backs often changing from game to game.
Fans would love to see the club go into the market for a centre back in January, but reports have indicated that appears to be unlikely.
Chelsea have been linked with Lazio’s Mario Gila, and German publication Bild have reported the Blues are interested in Upamecano.
The report adds Chelsea are prepared to battle Liverpool and United for the France international, who’s out of contract at the end of the season, and Bayern could listen to offers of €60m in January.
Chelsea have previously been linked with Upamecano, but a move has never materialised, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to move.
Upamecano has started ten of Bayern’s 12 games in all competitions this season, highlighting his importance to Vincent Kompany’s side.
Josh Acheampong continues to impress
In the absence of Colwill, teenager Josh Acheampong has really impressed this season and has staked his claim to be a regular.
The 19-year-old is going from strength to strength, and scored his first Chelsea goal against Nottingham Forest, and his form is making it very difficult for Maresca not to pick him.
Acheampong started on the bench against Ajax, and has a very good chance of once again being in the starting line-up for Saturday’s game against Sunderland.
