Chelsea striker lacks “killer instinct” and won’t make it at Stamford Bridge “long term” claims pundit

Troy Deeney is always good for a spicy quote, and today he’s dropped a bit of a bomb by claiming a player in Chelsea’s first team squad isn’t good enough to have long term prospects of playing in the team.

Marc Guiu has been in the headlines this week, and Deeney gave a pretty unfavourable opinion on him:

“Do I think he’ll have a very good career? Yes. But playing for Chelsea, I don’t think he’s got that level of killer finishing in him” Deeney said.

“And I don’t think he’s actually clean enough in his work that you would say you’ll be at Chelsea long term,” Deeney said on his “Football Exchange” show.

We’d love to disagree with Troy, but it looks like he’s pretty bang on here from what we’ve seen of the Catalan striker. He’s a willing worker, but not a superstar.

Regardless of how Guiu’s career is going to go long term, we’re more worried about his next 90 minutes. We’ve got a feeling he’s going to start against his erstwhile loan club Sunderland today, and that means another chance to impress.

Wherever his career ends up, he will rarely have as many eyeballs on him as he does in these games – so he better make sure he’s “clean in his work” today.

In other news…

There’s intense competition for minutes in the Chelsea first team, which is why Guiu has had such a battle for starts – Alejandro Garnacho is in a battle himself despite having arrived as a £40m summer signing.

But for all our good form, former Chelsea man Marcel Desailly has said the Blues are a player short of having the firepower to win the league.
