Chelsea lead against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues were under pressure in the first few minutes, but made their first real attack of the game count.
Enzo Fernandez nicked the ball in midfield and Pedro Neto took up the charge. He played in the advancing Alejandro Garnacho, who beat his man on the outside then finished across goal through the keeper’s legs from a tight angle.
It was a lovely way for the winger to open his account at Stamford Bridge. His celebration, pointing at the ground then sitting cockily on the advertising board, was a big declaration of “I’m here to stay,” a challenge to Jamie Gittens and his other competitors in that position.
That competition looks to be pushing them both to higher levels, which is exactly what we want. When Cole Palmer is back, we should have even more pressure on the starters to shine.
He needed a big game, and he’s already got a goal. He continues to get the ball in dangerous areas, and now the game has opened up he will potentially be an even bigger threat.
Meanwhile Neto adds another goal contribution to his excellent season so far. We said we wanted more productivity from him, and we’re getting it.

In other news….
We had a great chat with Sunderland site Roker Report on how today’s game could go, which you can read here. this team selection certainly changes our thoughts a little bit.
And former Chelsea man Marcel Desailly has said the Blues are a player short of having the firepower to win the league. Let’s hope we can prove him wrong by banging in a few more today.
