(Video): The embarrassing Chelsea defending which saw Sunderland win at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have lost 2-1 to Sunderland at Stamford Bridge, with the second goal coming late to break Blue hearts as they pushed for a winner. It wasn’t pretty.

It was some truly appalling defending from the Blues. A hack forward from the Black Cats defence left Brian Brobbey up against both Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah. He stood and waited for support… and waited, and waited. Eventually two players arrived in support, but Chelsea still had a 4 on 3.

Tosin didn’t make a decisive move on Brobbey and Chalobah wasn’t sure whether to help him out or switch to covering one of the advancing attackers.

Somehow, Chemsdine Talbi was left free as he approached, and when Brobbey laid the ball back to him, the former Club Brugges player just rolled the ball into the far corner.

But even ignoring that poor defending, we shouldn’t have been in this situation. We should be firing a few goals past our opposition while we’re on top and making it so that one goal the other way won’t mean anything. Today our best moment came with our early goal – after that all the parts of the team were poor, and the manager’s decision didn’t help either.

Chelsea threw on Estevao at 1-1 and BBC pundit Troy Deeney called him the “new Neymar”. However he wasn’t able to make the difference even with the game all set up for him

Alejandro Garnacho scored Chelsea’s first goal, finishing from a tight angle for his first goal for the Blues. Sadly it wasn’t enough to win it, thanks to some truly shocking play following that.
