Michael Oliver came under fire as Aston Villa beat Manchester City.
Villa secured a 1-0 win over Man City to make it six unbeaten in the Premier League under Unai Emery.
Matty Cash scored for Villa against City to give the home side the lead as Pep Guardiola’s Villa Park woes continued into a third consecutive season.
Emery made a bold call for Villa and took three points, but the clash wasn’t without its controversy in the Midlands.
Referee Oliver has been central to Manchester City’s frustration in B6 and has now come under heavy scrutiny.
Michael Oliver slammed for inconsistencies in Aston Villa vs Manchester City
Morgan Rogers got away with one against Man City, as it seemed clear that the Englishman had given away a spot kick.
The England international put two hands on Josko Gvardiol before pushing him over inside the Villa penalty area.
It appears Oliver missed this and allowed the game to continue, while VAR chose not to intervene and change the referee’s call.
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett is fed up with this approach and believes these challenges going unpunished are causing inconsistency in the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Hackett said: “Yes, Aston Villa got the rub of the green from the Match Official who failed to penalise that earlier push by Morgan Rogers on Gvardiol.
“Officials in the Premier League frankly are taking rather a lenient approach on pushing offences, hiding behind what appears to be an instruction around the impact of the holding or pushing offences an opponent.
“This is promoting inconsistency.”
Morgan Rogers central to lucky Aston Villa call vs Manchester City
It was seriously risky for the attacking midfielder to put two hands on anyone inside the 12-yard box.
The England international clearly pushed the Croatian over, and on another day, a penalty would have been given, and the three points would have slipped away.
It was a reckless call from Rogers to do so, and fortunately for the claret and blue outfit, he got away with it against City.

Andy Hinchcliffe suggested on Sky Sports that Oliver hadn’t actually seen this happen, which could explain the referee’s decision.
He said: “The referee is looking through the player so he can’t see how severe that contact is, but he’s a lucky boy.“
The co-commentator is spot on, and ultimately, PGMOL has to clarify the reasoning behind the stance, as it could happen to Villa in the coming weeks and months.
