Post-Palace quotes round-up: Arteta, Glasner, Richards, Trossard, Timber, Walcott & more

PL News Sunday 26 October 2025 - 17:12

Eberechi Eze downed former club Crystal Palace with a first-half scissor-kick as Arsenal leaned on their set-piece prowess and defensive solidity to secure another three points.

The win extends the Gunners’ lead at the top of the table to four points on a weekend when Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all lost. The only downside for manager Mikel Arteta is the increased injury concerns, as William Saliba, Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori, and Gabriel Martinelli appeared to have picked up issues.

Here’s what the managers, players, pundits and stattos made of the action…

Arteta on the importance of the win…

Very big. Really happy because we knew the difficulty of the match, we knew the other results. It was a crucial win against a really good side. Today, we were clinical and I think defensively we were excellent. We struggled to find ways to really generate big chances against them because nobody really generates big chances them, the way they are set up. We find again, a way to score a goal and another clean sheet which is important as well.

Oliver Glasner on defeat…

It’s a mixture of frustration about the result and being proud of the performance, especially in first half. You cannot give Arsenal anything. It’s a silly foul and we gave them the second shot with Ebs [Eberechi Eze], and we know he has a good shot. We tried everything. It shows our progress when we are upset with losing 1-0 here. We are still missing a little bit. Mikel Arteta is doing such a great job. It’s about us being a bit better in every single phase. When you get two or three chances, you need to score.

Palace defender Chris Richards on making it tough for the Gunners…

It was a close game in all aspects. Arsenal are a really good team and deserved the win. I think everybody knows how Arsenal are defensively and we needed to take our chances. Set-pieces are probably their forte right now. But we went toe-to-toe with the best team in the league. We are still positive. We take today on the chin and we keep trying to improve.

Leandro Trossard on patience paying off…

We’re really pleased with the win and another clean sheet. We need to keep going. Lately it has been like that, we have to keep patience throughout the game because we know we can score anytime. It would have been nice if we had put the game to bed. We are excited as well. When we get a set-piece we know we can score. It’s hard to put a finger on it [why we are doing particularly well this season] but every season we learn more and more. We just want to win, we want to win every game.

Jurrien Timber on topping the table but not getting carried away…

I think it’s good to stay neutral, not to get too high. Obviously, we’ve been doing well, but it’s still early in the season, and we just have to keep getting better game by game. The next game is already in two or three days, which is a cup game, and the next Premier League game is going to be tough as well. So, let’s keep our feet on the ground and keep working hard, and then from there, we’ll see what happens.

Arteta on Eze’s strike…

The technique is unbelievable. It’s a really difficult ball to make the contact that he’s done with that quality. But yeah, we needed something against a team that is so well organised. Chaotic moments are very important. We find a way to score and win the game.

Arteta on replacing Saka in the second half…

He’s been ill, he hasn’t trained really, so we didn’t know whether he was going to be fit, so he made a big effort to be available today. The doctor was brilliant as well to guide us, to give us the best opportunity for him to be in the best possible condition, so he’s managed to play a few minutes. The longer the game went on, the more he was going to fatigue and risk an injury, and we didn’t want to take that risk.

Arteta on injuries to Saliba, Calafiori, Rice and Martinelli…

The first one was Willy who had to be taken out after the first half, Declan was struggling from the first half with a knock that he took and Riccy, let’s see how that will go. We have to check that one [Martinelli], he was a bit uncomfortable, he said he felt something. We don’t know whether it’s a muscular issue or not, so tomorrow we’ll have more news.

Theo Walcott on Arsenal’s belief…

It’s starting to now be normal that they don’t concede goals. They will have a bad patch and last year it was too many draws but I don’t think that’s going to happen this year. There is belief in the whole club now.

Arteta on new boys Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie making an impact…

For Mosq, big credit for him because he’s played, I think, only one year in La Liga, he comes to a new league with huge demands and immediately he’s having the impact that he’s having. It’s great to have Piero on the pitch as well. You could sense immediately his aggression, his commitment in every action that he does. I think the crowd is going to love him, and [credit to] the rest of the boys that had to come in to win the game.
