Arsenal winger Olivia Smith has withdrawn from international duty with Canada after going off injured in their friendly against Switzerland over the weekend.
Smith, who signed from Liverpool for £1m over the summer, landed awkwardly after a collision and left the pitch on a cart with tears in her eyes after landing awkwardly on her hip.
In a short statement, Arsenal said, ‘Olivia Smith has withdrawn from international duty after sustaining a hip injury in Canada’s 1-0 defeat to Switzerland on Friday. The 21-year-old forward has returned to Arsenal for further assessment and treatment.’
The Gunners play Leicester in the WSL on Sunday before welcoming Chelsea to Emirates Stadium on Saturday 8 November. Katie Reid had already withdrawn from England duty, while Lotte Wubben-Moy has left the England camp due to illness. Daphne van Domselaar withdrew from the Netherlands squad as she has been managing a knee injury this season.
