Chelsea are in a bit of a black moment right now. It’s not a disaster, but there’s a sense that we’ve not made the step forward everyone was hoping we had made.
Chelsea can’t rely on teenage starlet to save their season
The Blues are looking for inspiration, and the temptation is just to rely on Estevao Willian while Cole Palmer is out. But as Joe Cole has explained to TNT Sport, it’s not fair or smart to rely on a raw teenager just months after he arrives at the club, no matter how precocious he is.
“He’s a super-talented kid. All the right noises are coming out of the club,” Cole said of Estevao.
“He seems a really good lad and is really popular in the dressing room. Chelsea are really lucky to have got hold of him. They spent the money, and he’s delivering.”
Cole is happy to compare him to some great players, including Neymar and former Blue Eden Hazard, but is quick to remind that he’s much younger than Hazard was when he arrived:
“He’s younger than when Eden joined the club, so it might not be this year or next year — but in years three, four, and five, I expect him to be one of the best players in the world. There’s a journey to be had with him, where the club needs to go and he needs to go on as a player.”
In other news…
One exciting player who we would love to see try to lift Chelsea’s season is Kenan Yildiz of Juventus. But the latest reports on his future don’t shine too brightly if we’re honest.
Excuses are being made for the Blues’ poor performances so far. But frankly, we need to see more than just “they’re tired” as a reason for why they continue to play below their level.
