Enzo Maresca has just taken his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Wolves tomorrow in the EFL Cup, and the manager has admitted we’re going to see major changes to the team which played in the Premier League on Saturday.
Maresca admits Chelsea “need” rotation
“The reason why is because we need to rotate, we need to protect players because if we go with the same 11, we’re going to struggle during the season,” the manager said.
“So we need to rotate and probably we’re going to make some changes. I don’t know how many, but we’re going to make some changes.”
Asked if there would be as many as last week, where he changed almost the full XI for the Ajax game, Maresca replied “I don’t know yet.”
“For sure we’re going to make some changes. I don’t know now if nine, 10, like we did between Forest and Ajax. But for sure we’re going to make changes again because we need to do that.”
We can’t see why he would rotate any less for this than he did for Ajax – that was a more important game to win, frankly. He’s not going to play anyone if it risks their availability in the Premier League this weekend.
We would expect a very similar team to the one that took on the Dutch side – hopefully with a similar outcome.
In other news…
The biggest piece of team news from the presser was all about Liam Delap, the striker who has been out for 2 months but is now fit to play some minutes. Just don’t expect a Premier League start anytime soon.
Chelsea’s 3 big problems have been outlined by The Chelsea Feed, who see clearly the issues stopping this team from going to the next leve.
