After a painful and frustrating defeat for Chelsea against Sunderland, we’ve been checking out what a few podcasts have to say on the game. As you can imagine, things are pretty negative.
Three big problems hurting Chelsea this season
The Blues Feed laid into three major problems they saw at the club:
“I think ultimately this game is the epitome of what’s wrong with Chelsea across the board, and I think that’s threefold,” presenter Danny said.
“One, the sporting directors have not built a good enough squad to consistently compete and win these games when we’re not necessary performing that well. You look at our centre back and our best centre backs are Levi Colwill and Josh Acheampong. Both from Cobham, both didn’t cost us a penny. Whereas like, Tosin on a free on big wages, Disasi, Badiashile etc. etc. [aren’t getting in the team] We just don’t have good enough centre backs.
“Two, Maresca seems to have two mistakes he makes when we don’t win – one is f*ck up the starting XI and make radical changes at half time, like he did against Nottingham Forest last week. Or he gets the starting lineup pretty good, then can’t really affect the game with all his subs.”
“And then three, a mentality issue in this side, we can’t seem to get up for games we’re expected to win, which aren’t big games in the Champions League or whatever.

Maresca needs to learn fast
It’s hard to disagree with any of those takes really. Maresca has had some tricky decisions to make because of injuries this season, but that still doesn’t excuse a lot of the mistakes we see him make time after time.
