Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid in January.
Villa have shown an interest in Garcia as Unai Emery looks to add forward depth to his squad in the winter transfer window.
As Ollie Watkins continues to struggle for Villa, the Villans are the favourites to land the 21-year-old forward from Los Blancos.
That’s according to On The Minute, who reported on 26 October that the B6 club are still the frontrunners to sign Garcia after preparing a £17.5million bid for the Spaniard.
After the frustration surrounding Evann Guessand’s signing from OGC Nice, this may be what the claret and blue outfit needs, but they could face stern competition for the starlet’s signature.
Aston Villa face competition for £17.5m Gonzalo Garcia signing
Watkins suffered an injury with England against Wales and hasn’t truly looked right since returning to the Midlands.
The 29-year-old was benched at Tottenham before failing to make an impact as the starting forward against Manchester City.
Signing an alternative to the ex-Brentford man could prove to be wise if the Villans are keen to continue their push up the Premier League table.
Garcia could prove to be the perfect addition as a young option with plenty of pedigree, but the process to sign him may not be easy.

Leeds United have joined the race to sign the Real Madrid talent, seeing him as a long-term investment and capable of making an impact across the second half of the season.
The Elland Road club have been closely tracking his progress and have signalled their intent to compete for his signature alongside other young European talent.
Fernando Morientes loves what he’s seen from Garcia at Real Madrid
The Bernabeu is one of the toughest places to play football and succeed, given the huge expectations surrounding Los Blancos.
Garcia managed to do that at the Club World Cup, but hasn’t been given a fair chance since returning to domestic and continental action.
That hasn’t stopped Real Madrid legend Fernando Morientes from showing his faith in the 21-year-old and his work in the Spanish capital.
Back in July, the heroic striker said, “I think Gonzalo Garcia is a perfect fit [for Real Madrid]. I loved Gonzalo Garcia’s performance. It is great news for Real Madrid.
“The youth players have to break down the door, and Gonzalo did it.“
If Villa are to land the striker’s signing, it is abundantly clear what sort of talent Emery would have to work with in claret and blue.
