Enzo Maresca has admitted he’s pleased with the performances of Alejandro Garnacho despite criticism of his form this season.
Garnacho joined Chelsea in the summer from Manchester United in a deal worth £40m, and was one of five attacking signings.
The Argentine faces fierce competition in the wide areas and is competing with Jamie Gittens, and to a lesser extent Pedro Neto for the starting berth on the left wing.
Enzo Maresca on Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho scored his first Chelsea goal against Sunderland, and has shown some glimpses of what he can offer in his performances.
The 21-year-old has made seven appearances in all competitions, with four of those coming in the Premier League, as he looks to establish himself in Maresca’s plans.
Fans have wanted to see more from Garnacho, and that may well come in time, but Maresca has revealed he’s happy with his early performances.
“Garna is doing well,” Maresca told Chelsea’s website.
“Garna is another player who we are trying to manage him a little bit physically, because he arrived here from United not 100% in his physical condition.
“He is working hard every day, he is getting better and better, and in this moment we are happy with the way he is playing.”
Rotation for Carabao Cup tie against Wolves
Chelsea travel to Wolves on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup, and Maresca is once again likely to rotate his side.
Garnacho started against Sunderland, but it’s likely Jamie Gittens and Estevao could be the wing pairing given both were on the bench at the weekend.
It’s likely Garnacho could still have a key role to play from the bench as the Blues look to make it to the quarter finals and take another step closer to Wembley in their quest for a first domestic trophy since the FA Cup in 2018.
