Chelsea are back in action tonight against Wolves, with a superb chance to wash the taste of defeat to Sunderland out of their mouths.

It’s a tough call for Enzo Maresca, however. His priority is to keep his first XI fit for the game against Tottenham this weekend,

He has to balance getting a good result with looking ahead to Sunday. And with a squad suffering from multiple minor fitness issues, that won’t necessarily be easy. Here’s the team we think he picks for the EFL Cup game this evening/

Filip Jorgensen has been promised games this season and we can only assume he makes his third start tonight.

Malo Gusto was surprisingly out for the game against Ajax last week, but should be back in tonight, letting Reece James get a rest. Jorrel Hato will play at left back.

The centre is a more interesting question – will Wesley Fofana be fit? Or could he be saved for this weekend? We think we could see him get an hour alongside Tosin Adarabioyo, with Josh Acheampong replacing him in the second half.

Andrey Santos and Romeo Lavia are fit and should start given they’re not likely to be in the XI at the weekend. Estevao will get a start on one wing with Jamie Gittens on the other flank.

Leading the line, we expect Facundo Buonanotte to play off Marc Guiu, with Liam Delap replacing the Spaniard at some point in the second half.

In other news…

Enzo Maresca has been preparing for this game since Saturday night, and he had a special task for his analysts. You can read all about it here.

Former Arsenal man Paul Merson has pointed to some of the flaws in the Chelsea squad that have got them to the situation they’re in now.
