(Video): Andrey Santos scores first Chelsea goal to put Blues ahead

PL News Wednesday 29 October 2025 - 19:13

Chelsea lead in their EFL Cup game against Wolves! The Blues wanted a fast start and they’ve got one.

It’s been a confident start from Enzo Maresca’s men, and just like at the weekend they’ve taken the lead within 5 minutes.

This time it was good pressing from the Blues which caused a turnover high up the pitch. Jamie Gittens nicked it and fed it to Andrey Santos, who was heading towards the edge of the box.

The Brazilian has a good goalscoring record in his career and finally bagged his first Chelsea goal here. He slammed it left footed back across goal, low beyond Jose Sa.

A really nice goal. Now let’s hope they hold on to this lead a little better than the one against Sunderland on Saturday…

Santos’ Chelsea career has yet to really get going, despite having tons of promise. Perhaps this can be the launch pad for the talented midfielder as he aims to make himself a more permanent fixture in Enzo Maresca’s thinking?

For the team, it’s just what they need. A reward for their high tempo start, and a chance for the second string to make the most of a more open game now that Wolves are bound to come forward and attack.

In other news…

Malo Gusto has been linked with a getting a new contract at Chelsea after establishing himself as a regular under Enzo Maresca. It’s not a universally popular decision in the fanbase.

Gusto isn’t the only defender Chelsea have in mind right now. They’ve also been linked with a couple who are out of contract next summer. However, we have our doubts whether they’ll actually move for any of them when it comes down to it.
