Two Chelsea players cannot be ignored by Enzo Maresca for starting spot anymore

Chelsea had some ups and downs last night in their 4-3 win over Wolves in The Carabao Cup fourth round.

But there was two players who can certainly come away from the game with their heads held high, and they cannot be ignored by Enzo Maresca anymore for regular starting spots.

Maresca has his sort of ‘Chelsea B-Team’ again this season like he had last season in the Conference League. He has pretty much a second Xl who start cup games at the moment. But I think he needs to put two of these players he starts in this Xl into the regular starting Xl for league games, so into his A-Team squad if you like.

Gittens and Estevao have earned starts

Estevao Willian in particular, but also Jamie Gittens have both done enough to be starting regularly now in Maresca’s best Xl. I don’t think Alejandro Garnacho has been bad as such, but I see Gittens just bringing more to the table and playing with real confidence now.

And as for Estevao, he’s Chelsea’s best attacking and most creative player right now whilst Cole Palmer is out injured. So for me, I actually cannot understand why he is not starting him in most games. I understand bedding him in slowly, but now the time has come for him to play more.

Chelsea get easiest draw in next round

Maresca has to be pleased with the draw for the quarter finals of The League Cup. They have been drawn against the only team left in the competition who are not in the Premier League, Cardiff City. That’s certainly the most favourable draw they could have got, despite it being away from home.
