Chelsea would not have welcomed an approach from Juventus for Enzo Maresca, and have no interest in a mid-season change according to journalist Kieran Gill.
Maresca had a successful first season in which he guided Chelsea back to the Champions League and won both the Club World Cup and the Conference League.
However, a mixed start to the new campaign sees Chelsea sit ninth in the Premier League having won just four of their first nine league matches.
Chelsea wouldn’t have welcomed Juventus approach for Maresca
Back to back defeats to Manchester United and Brighton saw questions asked about the future of Maresca, with the Italian once again expected to guide Chelsea to Champions League football.
Chelsea started to build some momentum and won four in a row in all competitions after the Brighton defeat, but came crashing down to earth with a defeat to Sunderland last weekend.
Recent links emerged that Juventus had interest in Maresca, and he used to play for the Italian giants back in his playing days.
However, Juventus have subsequently agreed to appoint Luciano Spalletti as their new boss, but Gill reported in Mail Sport had they decided to make an approach for Maresca it wouldn’t have been welcomed by Chelsea.
The report adds Chelsea have no interest in making a mid-season change and feel it actually does more harm than good, whilst it’s understood Maresca is fully focused on the Blues.
Chelsea under pressure this season?
Given the success of last season, Maresca is certainly under pressure to deliver more success at Stamford Bridge.
Paul Merson believes Chelsea are under “severe” pressure to win a trophy, and based on their start to the season it appears it could be another top four battle rather than a title challenge.
Chelsea still have plenty of time to turn things around, but even at this early stage some worrying patterns have started to emerge.
