Positive Update: Lisandro Martinez returns to Man United training ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been handed a massive boost ahead of the hectic festive schedule.

Lisandro Martinez is officially back in full training with the first-team squad, marking a huge step forward in his long-awaited recovery.

Martinez has been sidelined since early February, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) against Crystal Palace.

The Argentina international joined United from Ajax in the summer of 2022, instantly earning cult-hero status among the Old Trafford faithful.

Injuries have restricted his influence over the last 24 months but he remains one of most crucial player of the squad.

Martinez is tailor-made for the left centre-back spot in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

His front-foot defending style gives opponents little time to breathe.

The £36 million-rated star is one of the best ball playing defenders in the Premier League, possessing ability to line-breaking passes forward from deep.

Luke Shaw has been the undisputed starter in that spot this campaign but it would be no surprise to see him on the bench when Martinez is fully fit.

The Red Devils are set to clash with Nottingham Forest this Saturday.

We believe it would be too early for the 27-year-old to make a cameo but he could get some minutes against Tottenham Hotspur on November 8.

His comeback will no doubt lift the mood inside Old Trafford, but Amorim will need to carefully manage his minutes to avoid any recurrence of past injuries.

We do not expect Martinez to be named in the starting XI before the upcoming international break.
