There is a lot to be frustrated about from Chelsea’s game last night, despite the fact that the Blues got a win, so it’s nice to look at some positives too.
Without doubt the best individual showing was Jamie Gittens, getting a start on the left wing, and on the London is Blue podcast they showered him with praise.
Gittens hailed as “super hungry” at last
“Jamie Gittens on the day, man of the match without question in this one. An assist, one big chance, three key passes. The way he was driving in, the way he was maintaining control of the ball as he moved in,” presenter Dan Dormer pointed out.
“He was not necessarily being selfish [by dribbling], just in the sense of, ‘hey I’m going to find a way, to make a way to get somebody else involved’, particularly on the first goal, like wow.”
Fellow presenter Nick Verlaney agreed:
“He looked super hungry today, I thought the intensity he played with was probably what stood out for me. He’s probably seen Garnacho step up and thought ‘I’m going to have to play a lot better to get into the preferred eleven.’”
Both Garnacho and Gittens have raised their level in recent weeks, and it can only help Chelsea.
You can see their thoughts in the clip embedded here:
@nickverlaney: he looked super hungry today. I thought the intensity that he played with was probably the thing that stuck out to me. He’s probably seen Garnacho step up & goes, I’m going to have to play a lot better to get into the preferred XI.

Meanwhile Strasbourg got another big win against Auxerre to move them joint third in the Ligue 1 table. A journalist has noted Chelsea now have 2 players listed among Ligue 1’s top 4.
Enzo Maresca used the press conference last night to unload his frustration on his players, in particular with Liam Delap, who celebrated his return to the team after months out with two yellow cards in 7 minutes to pick up his team’s latest red.
