Last night Jamie Gittens really had his coming out party for Chelsea. Not only did he score a great goal to open his account for the Blues, he also picked up two assists.
Gittens on his teammates and his “special” first Chelsea goal
“It felt really special to score my first goal for Chelsea, and to win the game and get through to the next round was even better,” the winger said in the quotes picked up by the club’s official website.
“I’m more pleased that we got through to the next round today – I’m really happy. My team-mates have been really good. They’ve been talking to me individually, helping me with what to do and what not to do on the pitch. Everyone has helped and put an arm around me.
“I love playing with everyone here – they’re so talented, and they understand the game. They are so intelligent, and they know what to do. Playing with them is like an honour.”
That’s a great attitude, and that sort of humility will take him far. We’ve seen the individual talent in one on ones that has made him so highly regarded and made us pay so much for him – but he’s got a lot of rough edges to work on. If he keeps on with that good attitude, he can do just that.
In other news…
There are some odd questions around Wesley Fofana at the moment – he didn’t play a minute last night in a game it would have been perfect for him to pick up some match fitness in.
Andrey Santos was also impressive last night, racking up good numbers in both offensive and defensive stats. He’s got to be in line for more Premier League starts soon.
