Chelsea’s highest rated player after Caicedo is Premier League’s 13th best – but some fans aren’t happy

There is a real “culture war” at Chelsea over Trevoh Chalobah.

The academy defender is a fan favourite for many. He’s home grown, and clearly loves the club, and is a really solid player who would start for most Premier League teams. However there are a lot of haters too, fans who always want a shiny new signing.

A post of him celebrating an award for his 100th Chelsea appearance earlier this week got a lot of haters in the comments – which is just ridiculous. Even if you don’t rate him as a player, you’ve got to rate him as a person and support him as a Chelsea player (especially one from the academy).

He was unfairly blamed for the winner Sunderland scored last weekend, not the first goal he’s been unfairly blamed for. So there was some satisfaction when Chalobah was on the bench and Chelsea continued to defend in a disastrous way.

That’s not the only evidence that Chalobah is massively underrated by his haters – a look at WhoScored’s stats for the season show he’s the joint 13th highest rated player in the whole league this season. Moises Caicedo is the only Blue rated higher for his Premier League efforts.

He’s not Virgil Van Dijk, but he’s reliable, available, solid and loves the club. That’s more than you can say for most of our other options.

In other news…

Filipe Luis has been on Jon Obi Mikel’s podcast, where he revealed how terrified he had been of taking on Chelsea in the Club World Cup – a game he ended up winning.

Jamie Gittens was the star of the show last night as Chelsea took down Wolves in the EFL Cup, and he had some really nice quotes available after the game.
