The report adds the 20-year-old is believed to have a release clause of €17.2m, whilst Boca management don’t want him to leave.

Delgado is a defensive midfielder who’s come through the ranks at Boca, and has made 35 appearances for the first team.

The youngster has been capped 20 times for Argentina U20s, and is under contract with Boca until the end of 2028.

Financially Chelsea could certainly afford the move, and they would be able to help Delgado develop, perhaps by sending him to Strasbourg, but in terms of the long term Chelsea are stacked in midfield.

Chelsea have a real South American feel

The Blues are starting to have a real South American feel to them, with Joao Pedro, Estevao, Santos, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo all part of the first team set-up.

Chelsea also have promising youngsters Kendry Paez and Aaron Anselmino out on loan, who could be part of the first team squad next season.

Clearly not all the signings will work out, but there’s so much talent in South America, and it’s great to finally see Chelsea using that market to really good effect.
