Enzo Maresca has just taken his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Spurs tomorrow, and as always the focus was on team news.
In his last pre-match presser, Maresca spoke in gloomy terms about how several of his preferred first team were carrying knocks and couldn’t train as usual. He was asked for updates on them first of all.
Key Chelsea trio ready for action – but not out of the woods yet
“They are available. The reason why Joao Pedro did not play against Wolves was to protect him,” the manager explained in quotes which seemed to come in a post presser breakout zone rather than the main thing.
Asked for more details on the chronic injury carried by the Brazilian striker, as well as those which were bothering Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, Maresca replied:
“We cannot plan with them because of their problems, their situations. It is game by game to see how many minutes we can give them.”
We’re not even into November and our main striker and both our main midfielders are suffering from overuse. It’s going to be a long season. Players like Andrey Santos and Romeo Lavia are going to need to step up big time over the next few months otherwise there is no way Caicedo and Enzo are making it to the end of the season.
The important thing now is to go game by game – they’re available tomorrow, so let’s go out there and win.
In other news…
Some are saying that Jamie Gittens and Estevao should be starting on Saturday, and in fact there’s a big argument they should start – we don’t agree.
Trevoh Chalobah is one of Chelsea and the Premier League’s highest rated players this season, which makes the culture war around him even more confusing.
