Chelsea take on Tottenham tomorrow in what proves to be a really important game for both teams.
There have been a lot of goals scored in this fixture in recent years, but we expected that to change here. Spurs have a new, more solid look, and both teams will want to keep it right and not lose.
Maresca gives honest answer to tactical question about midfielder usage
One interesting question manager Enzo Maresca was asked in his press conference was on his tactic of dropping a central midfielder between his centre backs to create a chance for his full backs to push forward more.
“It depends on how the other team rests, where we can find space, where we can find solutions,” Maresca responded when asked whether it was something we would see tomorrow.
“Sometimes it’s also to move a midfielder from that area because there’s traffic, many players there, so we want to move some players out from that area. It depends a little bit on, as I said, on how the other team rests.”
Certainly having Romeo Lavia fit opens up lots of options in build up.
It’s rare to get that sort of tactical insight, and we really enjoyed getting a solid, detailed answer out of a coach about what his team does on the pitch.
Why can’t more people ask good questions like that, and why can’t managers give better, more detailed answers? It’s really refreshing.
In other news…
Maresca also used this press conference to talk about long throws, the hot topic in the Premier League right now.
The biggest news from the presser was on injured trio Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Joao Pedro. All have been struggling with niggling problems, but they’ve all now been cleared for action by Maresca.
