Andrey Santos has heaped praise on Estevao Willian, and admitted he really enjoys playing alongside the teenager.
Estevao finally arrived at Chelsea after the Club World Cup, despite a fee being worth up to £51.4m being agreed in the summer of 2024.
The 18-year-old has hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, and has made a bigger impact than perhaps many would have expected.
Andrey Santos praises Estevao
Santos himself is now in the first team picture this season, and has put in some impressive performances, with his best arguably coming against Wolves on Wednesday night.
Chelsea won a crazy game 4-3, with Santos scoring his first goal for the club, whilst Estevao was also on the scoresheet.
Santos will need to be patient for opportunities given he’s competing with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, but he explained he’s delighted to be playing with Estevao.
“”Joao Pedro and I have helped him because he arrived here two months ago in a new country, a new culture and a completely new language, so it’s a process for him,” he told Chelsea’s official website.
“He has done really well – he’s amazing.
“In Brazil, he did amazing, and even for the national team, and now for Chelsea, I’m so happy to play with him.”
Brazilian stars shining at Chelsea
Estevao has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, and has scored three goals and registered one assist.
There’s been a growing pressure to start the teenager more regularly, but Maresca has revealed he doesn’t find it difficult to tell Estevao he’s not playing.
Estevao became Chelsea’s youngster goalscorer in Champions League history when he scored against Ajax, and he’s likely to break many more records this season.
The Brazil international was taken off early against Wolves, and should be in line to start Saturday’s huge game away at Tottenham.
