Manchester United were forced to settle for a point after a dramatic 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at the City Ground.
Casemiro opened the scoring in the first half, guiding home from a well-worked corner to give United an advantage.
Forest roared back after the interval, stunning the visitors with two goals in the space of just two minutes.
Morgan Gibbs-White levelled proceedings with a brilliant glancing header that nestled into the bottom corner after outjumping Amad Diallo.
Moments later, Nicolo Savona completed the turnaround, reacting quickest inside the box to slot past Senne Lammens from close range. The hosts appeared on course for all three points, but Amad produced a moment of pure magic in the 81st minute. He smashed home an outrageous volley to rescue United from the brink of defeat. The result lifts United up to fifth in the Premier League table and extends Ruben Amorim’s unbeaten run in the league to four matches.
Senne Lammens – 5/10
The 23-year-old was safe with his ball distribution and could not have done anything about the two Forest goals.
Leny Yoro – 5/10
Failed to provide adequate cover for Diallo on the right flank, allowing Forest to exploit that channel repeatedly.
Matthijs de Ligt – 6/10
De Ligt made some good recovery tackles but needs to be more commanding in the box.
Luke Shaw – 7/10
Stepped up several times to close down his marker and win back possession. Made a potentially goal-saving tackle to block Gibbs-White’s shot in the first half.
Diogo Dalot – 3/10
Switched off for the second goal and repeatedly caught out of position before Amorim hooked him early.
Amad Diallo – 7/10
Tested the goalkeeper with his trademark curling effort after cutting inside, though he skied a similar attempt later. Lost an aerial duel to Gibbs-White, which led to Forest’s equaliser and was defensively exposed by Hudson-Odoi at times. Redeemed himself brilliantly with a stunning volley from outside the box to score his first goal of the season and bring United level.
Casemiro – 7/10
Not the tallest on the pitch, yet rose brilliantly to score another headed goal. Amorim’s reluctance to substitute him underlines just how vital the midfielder is to this United side.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
Picked up an assist with a pinpoint in-swinging corner for Casemiro’s goal. Struck a fantastic low shot from distance, but it cannoned off the crossbar.
Matheus Cunha – 7/10
Displayed outrageous skill to retain possession and evade two Forest defenders deep in his own half. Worked tirelessly in search of a winner, but United looked exhausted by the final whistle.
Bryan Mbeumo – 5/10
A rare off-night for the forward, who struggled to get involved and failed to make his usual impact in the final third.
Benjamin Sesko – 5/10
His first touch let him down after a superb long pass from Bryan Mbeumo. Linked play well at times but needs to show more selfishness and killer instinct in the final third.
Substitutes
Patrick Dorgu – 5/10
An upgrade over Dalot.
Noussair Mazraoui – 5/10
Picked up a booking for a tactical foul.
