Ex-employee: Aston Villa could seal £15m transfer from PL giants, they're open to offers for him

PL News Sunday 2 November 2025 - 09:12

Aston Villa could make a move for Mateo Kovacic in the January transfer window.

The Villans struggled with their PSR standing in the summer window, and while those issues are still prevalent, they will still be trying to reinforce their squad with cost-effective options.

Aston Villa are being linked with Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Garcia, while options closer to home in the Premier League are also likely to be explored.

Unai Emery will be desperate to add extra quality to his squad this winter, and he may be about to launch a sensational raid at Manchester City for Mateo Kovacic.

Ezri Konsa could leave Aston Villa in January, but they will surely be doing everything in their power to ensure they can avoid a high-profile sale once again.

Instead, they will be targeting quality options to come into their group without breaking the bank, and they may be about to hit the jackpot in Kovacic.

The Croatian is out of contract in the summer of 2027, and is not currently in talks over a new deal, with City believed to be open to offers for him, according to CaughtOffside.

They understand that the Villans are one of the sides chasing the midfielder, with a view to making a move for him in January.

Ex-Villa scout and Croatian football expert Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has backed his former employers as a good option for the 31-year-old, and believes that they may be able to strike a deal for as little as £15million.

“If he doesn’t sign a new contract, then he’ll certainly go to a decent club,” King said.

“I’d certainly say Villa would be a great option for him. It would allow (Morgan) Rogers that freedom to push on more. Kovacic is a great covering midfielder and a ball-winner, and he can pass a ball as well.

“He’s played an awful lot of international football. Villa might be able to get him for a figure of between £15m and £20m.”

Keeping Morgan Rogers has to be the priority for Villa

Rogers has had a mixed start at Aston Villa this season, but he remains the jewel in their crown at the moment.

The England international’s stock has grown drastically over the course of the last 12 months, and he is surely now up there with the most valuable players in the Premier League.

The B6 outfit could likely alleviate all of their PSR constraints with a simple sale of their star talent, but that would represent a severe setback in their bid to become regular contenders for Champions League qualification.

With that in mind, keeping Rogers will surely be the top priority for them this winter, and they would undoubtedly prefer that to any potential incoming if they had the choice.
