Arsenal have won back to back games in the WSL after dispatching Leicester City 4-1 at the King Power stadium.

Through injury and illness, Renée Slegers was forced to make numerous changes. Lotte Wubben-Moy and Kyra Cooney-Cross were ill; Olivia Smith and Frida Maanum were out though injury, and Emily Fox was involved in a game in Kansas City on Wednesday night, As a result, Taylor Hinds, Laia Codina, and Stina Blackstenius all came into the lineup.

Arsenal started fast and only a heavy touch from Blackstenius prevented Arsenal going ahead. But on 6 minutes, Arsenal took the lead. Mead’s cross came in from the right, and Blackstenius’ touch laid the ball off behind for Russo, who slammed her shot into the net. 0-1.

Foord drove down the left and then looked for Russo, passing finding her on the edge of the ‘D,’  but Russo curled her shot just wide.

Arsenal went short from a corner, and the ball came back to McCabe on the right, who crossed to the middle but Blackstenius mistimed her header.

A near calamity from Van Domselaar almost gave Leicester an equaliser. Playing short, her pass went off O’Brien, but luckily the ball rebounded straight back to her.

At the other end, Blackstenius was slipped in by Mariona, but Leitzig parried away her shot.

Arsenal added a second on 32 minutes. Hinds played long from a free kick, finding Russo in the channel. She cut back in Foord’s direction, but before Foord could get there Kees put through her own goal. 0-2.

Mead should’ve made it 3 two minutes later. Foord, set away on the left by Russo, found Mead in the middle. Mead had time to take a touch, and then take another before shooting, but Leitzig pushed her shot away.

Arsenal did make it 3-0 on 36 minutes. Mariona drove through midfield from the left and found Russo. She found Mead, who cut the ball into middle for Blackstenius, who shot first time past Leitzig into the corner of the net. 0-3.

Early in the second half, Foord should’ve made it four. Mariona carried the ball down the left and then slipped in Foord, who blazed her shot over the bar from inside the box.

Leicester broke, with the substitute Mouchon played in behind Catley. She knocked the ball past Codina, but her shot was too close to Van Domselaar, who parried behind.

Mariona’s long ball found Blackstenius and she drove toward goal. Swaby, though, kept pace and was able to block her shot.

Arsenal made a triple change on 59 minutes. Chloe Kelly, Emily Fox, and Victoria Pelova came on for Caitlin Foord, Katie McCabe, and Mariona.

Fox’s pass found Blackstenius down the right hand channel but she couldn’t quite bend her shot enough and it went into the side netting.

On 75 minutes Jenna Nighswonger replaced Taylor Hinds.

Eriksdottir dragged a shot wide after Arsenal cheaply coughed the ball up.

Leicester City grabbed a goal back on 84 minutes. Mouchon got onto a loose ball in midfield after Beth Mead lost possession. She burst past Little and then sprinted through the middle past Codina before slotting past Van Domselaar. 1-3.

A minute later, Blackstenius restored Arsenal’s 3 goal lead. Fox found Kelly on the halfway line. She played the ball over the top for Blackstenius, who fired past Leitzig into the top right corner. 1-4.

Katie Reid replaced Kim Little on 88 minutes, with Little going off with injury. Codina, rather than Reid, went into midfield.
