Ezri Konsa was one of the few Aston Villa stars to leave Anfield with credit in the bank after the disappointing 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.
Poor defending for Mohammed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch’s goals ended Villa’s four-match winning run in the Premier League.
Emi Martinez’s terrible mistake typified Villa’s unease at playing out from the back, and it led to their downfall at Anfield on Saturday.
Despite Aston Villa‘s shakiness in defence, Konsa has been excellent this season, and he was a standout yet again on the biggest stage against Liverpool.
Ezri Konsa unfortunate to be on the losing side vs Liverpool
Konsa may leave Villa in January following his brilliant performances over the last few years under Emery.
Having spent over six seasons in B6, Konsa has emerged as one of the centre-backs in the country and has developed both mentally and physically on the pitch.
Against Liverpool, Konsa registered a pass accuracy of 98 per cent, whilst also completing 100 per cent of his attempted dribbles.
For all of Villa’s issues on the ball, the 28-year-old defender was near-faultless, and he was let down by his teammates throughout the match, especially those playing out around him.
In the Premier League this season, Konsa has made 27 recoveries and nine blocks, and his importance has been highlighted in the wins over Fulham, Man City, and Tottenham.
At Anfield, he once again showed his ability against one of the best in the world, and Villa are extremely lucky to have a defender of his calibre on board.

Centre-backs of Konsa’s quality are incredibly rare, and a host of clubs across Europe will be monitoring his development over the next few months.
How Ezri Konsa became one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League
Konsa joined Villa from Brentford in 2019 and has since made 251 appearances for Aston Villa.
He also became the ninth player to make 200 Premier League appearances for Villa in the 2-1 win over Tottenham.
Following his emergence at Villa, Konsa broke into the England team in 2024, and Thomas Tuchel remains hugely impressed with how he’s playing.
His composure on the ball is a part of his game that he has refined, and whether he leaves in January or not, he will go down as one of Aston Villa’s best centre-backs in the Premier League era.
