Fosun now want to hire ex-Aston Villa centre-back as new Wolves manager

Vitor Pereira was sacked on Sunday with Wolves now looking for a new manager.

Pereira leaves Wolves with the Old Gold rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, having failed to win a single game this season.

There were hopes that Aston Villa could get him sacked when the sides face off on November 30, but he did not last that long.

Rob Edwards is a candidate for the Wolves job

Ex-Villa star Rob Edwards is currently the manager at Championship outfit Middlesbrough, but he is among the leading contenders for the vacancy.

The former Luton Town boss made nine appearances for the Villans, but he is one of two names to be sounded out by Fosun.

A report from the BBC on 2 November claimed that Edwards and Gary O’Neill are being considered as potential Pereira replacements.

O’Neill is the resounding favourite with the bookies to take the job, which would be a huge surprise, after he was sacked by the same club last December.

The 42-year-old is at 10/11 in some places, while Edwards is at 3/1 to be handed the role, and former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is 7/1 to return to the top of the English game.

Given the Portuguese connection that the Midlands club have, there will also likely be speculation about managers from that country.

Sporting’s Rui Borges is a contender for the post at 4/1 with some, and Al-Ittihad boss Sergio Conceicao is an outsider for the post, ranked at 9/1.

Other names on the shortlist include former Manchester United forward Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at 12/1, ex-Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard at 16/1 and ex-Villa boss Steven Gerrard at 20/1.

Sam Allardyce and Carlos Carvalhal are even further out in the betting, with both rated at 33/1 to take over in WV3.

Villans supporters will enjoy the chaos across the Midlands for as long as they can, and it seems like whoever comes in, has a really hard job on their hands to turn it around.
