Arsenal look set to be without Viktor Gyokeres for tomorrow’s clash with Slavia Prague after the Sweden international missed today’s training session.
The striker picked up a muscle problem during Saturday’s 2–0 win over Burnley and was forced off at half-time. Having produced arguably his best 45 minutes in an Arsenal shirt, including the opener, it’s a frustrating setback for Mikel Arteta.
We’ll likely get an update when the manager faces the media in Prague this evening, but Gyokeres could also be a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.
With Gabriel Martinelli still sidelined and long-term absentees Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus continuing their recovery from knee injuries, Arsenal may again turn to makeshift striker Mikel Merino. Teenager Andre Harriman-Annous, who made his senior debut in the Carabao Cup win over Brighton, is another option.
We’re not sure what’s going on with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, but he missed today’s session too.
In more positive news, Martin Zubimendi, who also went off early at Turf Moor, did train today. However, the Spaniard is suspended for tomorrow’s match after picking up bookings in each of the first three Champions League fixtures. Christian Nørgaard is expected to partner Declan Rice in midfield.
