Aston Villa could be about to see a familiar face take charge at Wolves after Vitor Pereira’s dismissal.
The Black Country outfit are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table at the 10-game mark, and are still searching for their first league win of the season.
Aston Villa have a clash with Wolves approaching on the horizon at the end of November, and they will now line up against a new man in charge of the struggling side.
This weekend’s 3-0 defeat away at Fulham proved to be the final straw for Pereira, and there are already plenty of names in the frame to take the reins at Molineux.
Ex-Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard in the running for Wolves job
Ex-Aston Villa defender Rob Edwards is being touted as an early candidate to replace Pereira at Wolves, and there are several well-known faces to the Villa faithful who could be in the frame.
England U21 boss and former Birmingham City midfielder Lee Carsley is in the running for the job, while the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ange Postecoglou have all been familiar opponents in B6 over the years.
However, the most striking name among the early candidates from a Villa perspective is undoubtedly Steven Gerrard.
The Liverpudlian took charge at Villa Park for an 11-month spell between November 2021 and October 2022, and has since spent time managing in Saudi Arabia.

The 45-year-old is currently priced by the bookies at 20/1 to take the job, despite the fact that he recently turned down a return to Rangers due to poor timing.
Gary O’Neil in advanced talks to over Wolves return
Gerrard is a striking candidate given his Aston Villa connection, but it already looks as though the search for a new manager at Molineux could be nearing its conclusion.
Fosun are currently in advanced talks with Gary O’Neil over an eye-catching return to the club, according to John Percy via his X account.
Potential alternatives are still being weighed up ahead of an appointment, but for now, O’Neil is understood to be a “very strong” candidate.
An appointment still appears to be some way off, which could yet leave the door ajar for Gerrard or any of the other names who are linked to make a swift rise through the odds.
