Chelsea key tactical piece could make two starts in a week after missing two months

It’s fair to say Liam Delap’s return to action for Chelsea didn’t go as planned.

He came on as a sub against Wolves in the EFL Cup, got two yellow cards in 7 minutes, meaning he was banned for the game against Tottenham against the weekend.

The good news for Delap is that his teammates held on to win against Wolves and then beat Spurs without the striker. He’s now had another week in training, and should be desperate to impress and make amends.

Qarabag on Wednesday night will be a good opportunity. He can head out to Azerbaijan with the B team and get some minutes. He could potentially play 45 minutes, then even be fit enough to face his old friends Wolves from the start on Saturday – it’s a long shot, but we don’t see why he couldn’t play 45 and then 60 minutes in a week, if the physical indicators are in place.

Despite his frustrating behaviour in our last game, we are keen to finally have him back and see what he can do to improve this team.

In other news…

Estevao is another star we expect to get game time on Wednesday night – in fact, it will be very interesting to see how he links up with Delap. Both can expect significant minutes in the first team, both as subs and starters, in the rest of this season, so it will be really interesting to see if they can develop some chemistry in these midweek games.

We’re getting towards transfer season again now, and we’re hearing the first rumours about Chelsea players potentially departing the club. Tyrique George is a name we’re starting to hear mentioned, given he came close to leaving in the summer.
