Enzo Maresca is taking his press conference at the moment ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Azerbaijan to take on Qarabag, and as always the whole thing began with a team news chat.
James ready to return to action 3 times a week if needed
We expect major changes for the game – in fact we expect a lot of senior players to dodge the trip entirely. One player who we think will keep his feet up is Reece James, although according to Enzo Maresca his captain could play if he wanted to:
“Reece is good, he is doing well. He is fit, 100%. The way he has behaved every game is top. Even when he is not playing, the way he is with his teammates in the dressing room. In the way we use Reece, we don’t use him up and down. It’s a big job to do that when we use a full-backs in a different way.
“He is ready to play three games in a week,” the boss concluded.
Just because James is capable of that doesn’t mean we should expect to see it, however. Especially not in circumstances like this. However, at the end of this month when we take on Barcelona between Premier League games against Arsenal and Burnley, it could be time to try it out…
In other news…
Possibly featuring in the game tomorrow will be young midfielder Reggie Walsh. He spoke to the club’s website about his game and which player he looks up to most.
In the same interview, Walsh spoke about his style of play, and the way he talked about his “football intelligence” (as well as the way he looks) reminded us a lot of another diminutive playmaker who came through at Cobham a few years ago. It wasn’t Palmer.
