Chelsea’s win over Spurs at the weekend was a team performance, with a number of Blues doing well. But one player who shone above all was Moises Caicedo.

Moises Caicedo compared to Declan Rice by Makelele

The midfielder got a huge amount of praise from players, pundits and coaches alike after the game, and today it’s fallen to Claude Makelele to have his say. He started off addressing the comparisons between Caicedo and Arsenal star Declan Rice that have been ongoing ever since the pair made £100m+ moves in the summer of 2023.

“They’re different players. Declan Rice has qualities that Caicedo doesn’t have,” Makelele said in an interview with the Sun.

“They’re not comparable, and they could play together for sure, but for me, I prefer the way Caicedo plays. I would say Caicedo is better than Rice… because Caicedo is a Chelsea player.

“N’Golo Kante was the same, he does the unpopular work in midfield. He can be one of the best midfielders in the world if he has big ambitions and brings leadership. The most important thing is, you can see his happiness. He loves to play in this position. He always fights, but not in a bad way. He plays for the team.”

He’s bang on with all of that, really. We just need a few other players playing at Caicedo’s level, especially with his selflessness.

Cole Palmer and Benoit Badiashile are both out injured right now but expected back later this month – Enzo Maresca used his presser today to give an update on their progress and likely return date.

In the same press conference, Andrey Santos also spoke about Estevao and how he had been helping his teammate Estevao settle in to life in the Premier League.
