We really enjoyed Reggie Walsh’s interview with Chelsea’s official website today.
The midfielder began by describing his aims for this season, a crucial one following his first team debut last year:
“This season, I really want to push on with the Under-21s, play consistently in the Premier League 2 and grow my all-round game.”

He also spoke a little about his game and how he wanted to develop that too:
“I’m always wanting to continue to grow and keep working hard. I’ve been fortunate enough to have opportunities that have only fuelled my ambition more. However, I just need to take it day by day.”
When asked which first team player he looked up to, he gave an answer we expect we’ll be hearing a lot in the coming years:
“Cole Palmer, for sure. He’s just so creative and unpredictable. He sees the game differently and makes things happen out of nowhere. Watching him closely has been inspiring. He’s a player I try to learn from every time I see him play or train.”
Walsh is on our UEFA B list and is expected to travel to Azerbaijan tomorrow with the squad, and could get some more Champions League minutes having also featured in our last game.
In other news…
In the same interview, Walsh spoke about his style of play, and the way he talked about his “football intelligence” (as well as the way he looks) reminded us a lot of another diminutive playmaker who came through at Cobham a few years ago. It wasn’t Palmer.
Now the dust has settled from Chelsea’s win over Tottenham this week, we can look back at the stats. One player made it to the WhoScored team of the week, but it might not be who you expect.
