We’re into November now, so it’s time to take a look at Chelsea’s best attackers by the numbers.
As always, we’ll use the most basic advanced metric – expected goals and expected assists, per 90, not including penalties. So that means – the quality of open play shots a player takes, plus the quality of open play shots they create, adjusted for playing time. In all competitions, according to the FBRef data.
Estevao lapping the competition in terms of xG and xG
As you’d expect given his recent form Estevao is way out in front with 0.86. Of course that number is heavily conditioned by the fact he’s coming on later in games, and is also tending to play weaker opposition, but that’s still incredibly impressive for a player of his age. He’s not just coming on to help his development, he genuinely is our top attacker right now.
After him is Enzo Fernandez, way back on 0.57. He continues to get himself in dangerous positions and stack G/A.
Then comes Cole Palmer – which shows how much we miss him. Rounding out the top 5 we’ve got Joao Pedro on 0.54 after boosting his stats big time on Saturday with a hail of shots, followed by Jamie Gittens on 0.4. He edges out his left wing rival, Alejandro Garnacho, who has 0.34.
Both Estevao and Gittens could start tonight and boost their numbers significantly against Qarabag in the Champions League.
In other news…
Moises Caicedo has been praised by former Blue Claude Makelele, who pointed to some of the things he liked most in the midfielder’s game.
Cole Palmer and Benoit Badiashile are both out injured right now but expected back later this month – Enzo Maresca used his presser today to give an update on their progress and likely return date.
