Manchester United are ‘most interested’ in signing Palmeiras striker Vitor Roque amid interest from Chelsea and West Ham United, according to Sport (page 21).
The Red Devils have had a good start to the Premier League season with 17 points from 10 games. They are five points better compared to the same stage last term.
The signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko have made United a better attacking outfit, and Sport claim that they could add more quality next year.
The Spanish publication cite that United have sent scouts to watch Roque in action for Palmeiras. Chelsea and West Ham have also been following the striker’s performances.
The Red Devils are described as the ‘most interested’ in signing the 20-year-old, who could leave Palmeiras for a second time. He is valued at around £44 million.
Roque has his sights on staying with Palmeiras until next summer before moving on. The striker is keen on sustaining his spot with Brazil with the World Cup coming up.
Roque speculation could be agent-driven
The young marksman joined Barcelona from Palmeiras in January 2024. He had a difficult debut season. He scored two goals from just 353 minutes across all competitions.
Roque was loaned out to Real Betis last year. He managed seven goals and two assists from 33 appearances before Barcelona sanctioned his permanent return to Palmeiras.
The Brazilian has since recaptured his form. He has bagged 17 goals and five assists from 38 appearances in the Copa Libertadores and Serie A. He recently earned his second Brazil call-up.
Roque may have his sights on redeeming himself in Europe, but we believe the United speculation could be agent-driven, rather than the club making contact for the centre-forward.
His representative Andre Cury has publicly said that they are waiting for a £44m bid from the Premier League. United are being used as a negotiation tool to attract interest, in our view.
Roque will want a guaranteed starting role at his next club. This won’t happen at United with Sesko being the regular striker. He may struggle to displace Liam Delap and Joao Pedro at Chelsea too.
West Ham could end up as the likely destination for the highly-rated striker.
