Chelsea were playing Qarabag and were 1-0 up last night. From that position, anything other than 3 points is devastating.
Well, that’s exactly how the Blues ended up. They actually were 2-1 down at one point, only recovering thanks to Alejandro Garnacho’s second half goal.
Chelsea must do better says their captain
Captain Reece James started the game, rather surprisingly, and he was asked to address the result.
James has been praised more and more for his leadership in recent weeks, a year after being called out by Enzo Maresca. He spoke out today after the game on his disappointment:
“Yes it’s disappointing. Coming here we wanted to win, of course,” James said in the mixed zone post game.
“We set up pretty strong and we started well, got ourselves in front and then it’s disappointing to let it slip. The goals we conceded weren’t good from our perspective. We gave away a penalty and a goal that we really gifted them.
“It’s disappointing. We didn’t adapt well enough to certain situations and the goals we’ve conceded, it’s from our own sloppy play. That’s something, collectively, we need to improve on going forward.”
He doesn’t call out anyone specifically, but we all saw it was Jorrel Hato and Tosin whose combined bad play allowed Qarabag in.
Then the blame can also be transferred up the line to Enzo Maresca, who chose to play Hato at centre back while Josh Acheampong was sitting on the bench perfectly capable (and more than deserving) of stepping in.

In other news…
Qarabag goalscorer Leandro Andrade also had his say on the game when he spoke to the media post game.
Former Chelsea goalkeeper and club legend Petr Cech has spoken today about his old club’s patchy start to the season and the role they could play in the title race this season.
