View: 100% star 'given every chance' by Emery is finally starting to shine at Aston Villa

PL News Thursday 6 November 2025 - 21:43

Jadon Sancho has been backed to come good at Aston Villa, despite what has been a slow start to life at Villa Park.

Villa signed Sancho on loan from Manchester United in the summer, after a busy transfer deadline day that also saw Harvey Elliott arrive from Liverpool.

The loan deal contains no option or obligation to buy, although a positive spell may see decision-makers at Villa Park attempt to negotiate a deal to sign the winger next summer.

Sancho has struggled for minutes at Villa so far this season, but in recent weeks, Emery has begun to trust the Englishman more.

The 25-year-old started as Villa beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0 on Thursday in the Europa League, and impressed in his time on the pitch.

Jadon Sancho ‘has so much potential’

Villa got off to a slow start against Maccabi Tel Aviv, with Sancho providing much of the threat down the left side.

The winger created two chances, completed 100 per cent of his dribbles, and registered three recoveries on the night.

It was a promising display from Sancho, who also won three duels and completed a cross, as he attempted to get Villa going down the left.

No player on the pitch would complete more than the England international’s three dribbles, as Maccabi Tel Aviv struggled to deal with him.

Speaking live on TNT Sports during the game, former Leeds United striker Lucy Ward said: “Jadon Sancho has so much potential.

“It’s about finding a home and making him feel comfortable. Unai Emery is giving him every chance.”

Unai Emery pleased with Sancho’s development

Sancho suffered the unfortunate shame of being double-substituted against Manchester City, after the winger was brought off having come on to replace the injured Emi Buendia.

The winger, understandably, looked disappointed with the decision, but Emery took time to explain the decision and praise Sancho after the game.

“Before Morgan, Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey, they felt the same when I subbed them, but it was not a punishment,” the Spaniard said. “And now it’s not a punishment.

He played 45 minutes, I am so happy because his impact was good, his electricity, his skill, but then to play more than now he’s not ready fit to play 90 minutes, 45 minutes is not easy enough for him, and I am happy and of course, progressively he’s coming better and better.”

Emery’s backing of the forward continued on Thursday, as he left Sancho on the pitch until the 75th minute, in a clear show of faith.

Whether the 25-year-old has done enough to earn himself a place in the starting line-up against Bournemouth, however, remains to be seen.

Finally, Sancho is starting to consistently shine again.
