Aston Villa are set to make several moves in the January transfer window as they look to improve their squad for the second half of the season.
The Midlands outfit had a horrific start to the 2025-26 campaign and were sitting in the Premier League relegation zone after five games.
However, Unai Emery’s side have now won 11 out of their last 13 games across all competitions, in what has been a remarkable turnaround.
On Sunday, Aston Villa beat Wolves 1-0, a result that moved them up to fourth in the Premier League, just six points adrift of table-topping Arsenal.
Aston Villa to discuss Emi Martinez’s future
Emi Martinez was heavily linked with an Aston Villa exit in the summer transfer window but a move away never materialised in the end.
However, according to The Athletic, the Midlands giants are reportedly set to hold further talks with Martinez regarding his future at the club, although these will likely take place at the end of the season.
Emery’s side already have goalkeeper targets lined up to replace the Argentinian, all of who are younger and on much lower wages than the 33-year-old.
Martinez joined Villa from Arsenal back in the summer of 2020, and since then he has gone on to become one of the best shot-stoppers in world football.
Aston Villa target three more signings
Despite the fact that Aston Villa are not expected to bring in a Martinez replacement in January, they do have several other targets for when the window reopens.
The Athletic are also reporting that Emery would like to sign a right-back and a winger in the new year.
Villa are also interested in bringing in a centre-forward to provide depth, with Ollie Watkins’ poor start to the season raising question marks around his place in the team.
| Stats (Premier League) | Ollie Watkins (2025-26) |
| Games | 13 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 0 |
Across the 2025-26 campaign, the England international has scored just once in the Premier League, and he is now on a run of 11 games without a goal for the Midlands side.
Donyell Malen has stepped up for Emery with Watkins struggling, but Villa are still looking to strengthen their striking options.
