Chelsea have held long standing interest in Nottingham Forest defender Murillo, but the Brazilian is not on their radar according to The Athletic.
The Blues lost Levi Colwill to an ACL injury before the start of the season, and despite public pleas from Enzo Maresca a replacement wasn’t signed.
Maresca has tried a number of defensive combinations, but now seems to have settled on Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana as his preferred pairing.
Murillo not on Chelsea’s radar
The Blues conceded just once in the league in November, and they’ve improved a lot defensively since the beginning of the season.
It’s no surprise that improvement has coincided with the settled pairing of Fofana and Chalobah, who played three of the four league games last month.
Despite the improvement, Chelsea have still been linked with defenders ahead of the January window, with Murillo said to be of interest, but The Athletic have now provided an update on the situation.
They report the Blues have held a long standing interest in Murillo, but he’s considered to be of starting quality so isn’t on the club’s radar.
The Athletic add Chelsea are more focused on succession planning and players for the future, which given the transfer policy is hardly a surprise.
Chelsea have also been linked with Marc Guehi, but it appears very unlikely they will make a move for the Crystal Palace captain.
Aaron Anselmino impressing at Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea have two young defenders out on loan in Aaron Anselmin and Mamadou Sarr, who both made their debuts at the Club World Cup.
Anselmino has impressed for Dortmund, and scored his first goal against Leverkusen last month, and the Bundesliga outfit are believed to be keen to keep him.
Sarr is also doing well at Strasbourg, and it will be interesting to see what Chelsea’s plan is with the young defenders next season, and if they will be part of the first team squad.
