Ajax boss John Heitinga has claimed Chelsea are one of the “better sides” in the Champions League this season.

The Blues ran riot on a wet night at Stamford Bridge as they thrashed the Dutch giants 5-1, to make it two wins from their opening three games in the competition.

Chelsea have five different goal scorers on the night with Marc Guiu, Estevao, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Tyrique George all finding the back of the net.

Enzo Maresca made a number of changes from the side which beat Nottingham Forest, with Guiu handed his first start, whilst there were also starts out wide for Estevao and Jamie Gittens.

With some tough games remaining it was important Chelsea picked up the three points, and Maresca was able to rest a number of players ahead of the game against Sunderland on Saturday.

How much of a chance the Blues have of winning the competition remains to be seen, but Heitinga has claimed Chelsea are one of the better sides this season.

“This is one of the better teams, not only in the Premier League but I think also in the Champions League,” he said as quoted by News Break.

“It was a tough one for us to take, but it is how it is.”

Enzo Maresca building momentum

Since losing to Brighton, Chelsea have now recorded four wins in a row and are starting to build some momentum.

The Blues have a more favourable run of fixtures leading up to the next international break, and it’s a real opportunity for them to go on a run and get some points on the board.

Chelsea face Sunderland on Saturday, before a trip to Wolves in the Carabao Cup, and an away game against Tottenham.
